The working paper analyses the potential impact of the trade agreements the EU currently negotiates with Canada (CETA) and the United States (TTIP) on the health and social services sectors in the European Union. It covers issues such as:

  • hospital planning
  • staff-patient ratios
  • health and safety regulations
  • statutory health insurance systems
  • state aids and compensation payments 
  • mutual recognition of professional qualifications
  • temporary stay of health professionals in another country
  • patient mobility and reimbursement rules
  • socially-responsible public procurement and
  • locking in of health and social service privatisations.
